The Axim can remember the calibration values for up to six different microphones. If you purchase the IE-35 complete (with an Axim), the microphone will have already been calibrated to the unit before it leaves the factory and a factory "Certificate of Calibration" is included. If you purchase the IE-35 PAL (jacket only) to use with your own Axim, you will need to calibrate the microphone. "PERIODIC CALIBRATION" may be performed in the field if you own an SPL calibrator.

Whichever microphone(s) is employed, it is calibrated to the IE-35 PAL (jacket) and not to the Axim. The Axim simply remembers and applies the calibration value of the microphone/jacket combination to the calculations of IE-35 SPL measurements. Calibration requires that the microphone, jacket, and Axim be kept together as a complete instrument. The instrument will need to be recalibrated if any of the above items are changed.

If you purchased a complete IE-35 including an Axim from Ivie, the calibration number has been entered into your Axim and you DO NOT NEED to complete the "INITIAL CALIBRATION" procedure below. If you have supplied your own Axim, YOU MUST follow the "INTIAL CALIBRATION" procedure below.

PERIODIC CALIBRATION

Step 1: With the Axim inserted into the PAL (jacket), enter into the calibration mode by selecting the "File/Input Select/Calibrate" menu.

Step 2: Select which microphone you are going to calibrate to the PAL.

Step 3: The current dB SPL being measured by the IE-35 will be displayed in real time in the "Current dB SPL" window.

Step 4: Place the calibrator (user supplied) over the microphone to be calibrated. The IE-35 SPL Meter is automatically set to FAST response and FLAT weighting.

Step 5: Enter the desired calibration level into the "Calibrator dB SPL" window. This would include any allowances for altitude and barometric pressure should your calibration equipment provide these.

Step 6: Press "Calibrate".

Step 7: Press "Done".

INITIAL CALIBRATION

Step 1: Remove the Axim from the PAL (jacket). The Axim MUST NOT BE CONNECTED to the PAL in any way.

Step 2: Enter into the calibration mode by selecting the "File/Input Select/Calibrate" menu.

Step 3: Select which microphone you are going to calibrate to the PAL.

Step 4: Enter the calibration value from the "Certificate of Calibration" (factory supplied) into the "Calibrator dB SPL" window.

Step 5: Press "Calibrate".

Step 6: Press "Done".

Step 7: Place the Axim into the PAL (jacket) and you are now ready to use the calibrated SPL functions of the IE-35.

Note: for factory calibration, the Calibration Constant (CC) value should match the CC value on your factory "Certificate of Calibration". If you perform your own calibration the number may change and should be recorded.
