Calibration
The IE-45IM
remembers calibration values for up to six different microphones, as well as
calibration for individual line inputs and dual line inputs. When you purchase an IE-45IM, whether it
comes with a UMPC or you decide to use it with your notebook or other compur,
the microphone(s) that you purchased with it will have already been calibrated
to the unit before it leaves the factory and a factory "Certificate of
Calibration" is included. If you intend to use a microphone you already
own or purchase a microphone from Ivie at a later date, you will need to
calibrate the microphone. "PERIODIC CALIBRATION" may be performed in
the field if you own an SPL calibrator.
Whichever
microphone(s) is employed, it is calibrated to the IE-45IM (input module) and
not to the computing device. The RTA or other
software simply queries the
IE-45IM
for the appropriate calibration constant for the selected
microphone. Calibration requires that
the microphone and IE-45IM Input Module be kept together as a complete
instrument. The instrument will need to be re-calibrated if any of the above
items are changed.
The microphone (or microphones) that come with
your IE-45IM from the factory are already calibrated and the calibration
information is stored in the IE-45IM.
(A Calibration Certificate is shipped with the product with the
appropriate calibration information).
For microphones that came from the factory with the IE-45IM you DO NOT
NEED to complete the "INITIAL CALIBRATION" procedure below. If you
intend to use a different microphone, YOU MUST follow the "INTIAL
CALIBRATION" procedure below.
Periodic Calibration, Method 1
Step 1: With the
microphone connected to your IE-45IM and the IE-45IM connected to your
computing device, start the software and enter into the calibration mode by
selecting the "File/Input Select/Calibrate" menu.
Step 2: From the
list shown, select which microphone you are going to calibrate.
Step 3: The current
dB SPL being measured by the IE‑45 will be displayed in real time in the
"Current SPL" window.
Step 4: Place the
calibrator (user supplied) over the microphone to be calibrated. The IE‑45 SPL
Meter is automatically set to FAST response and FLAT weighting.
Step 5: Enter the
desired calibration level into the "Calibrator dB SPL" window. This
would include any allowances for altitude and barometric pressure should your
calibration equipment provide these.
Step 6: Press
"Calibrate".
Step 7: Press
"Done".
Periodic Calibration, Method 2
Step 1: With the
microphone connected to your IE-45IM and the IE-45IM connected to your
computing device, start the software and enter into the calibration mode by
selecting the "File/Input Select/Calibrate" menu.
Step 2: From the
list shown, select which microphone you are going to calibrate.
Step 3: The current
dB SPL being measured by the IE‑45 will be displayed in real time in the
"Current SPL" window.
Step 4: Using the
Calibration Constant shown on the Calibration Certificate supplied with your
IE-45IM, manually enter the Calibration Constant into the Calibrator SPL window
and tap “Manual Set.”
Step 5: Tap “OK”
